Starting August 1st, Connecticut retailers are now required to charge a 10 cent fee for each plastic bag that they use for bagging customer's purchases. Many businesses have switched to paper bags and also encouraged customers to bring reusable bags, as the gentleman shown here at Caraluzzi's has done.
Unlike many other area grocers, Caraluzzi's stores in Bethel and Georgetown are also offering paper bags at no additional cost as an alternative for customers who are not ready to make the switch to reusable bags.
We spoke with a number of customers at the Bethel Caraluzzi's, all of whom praised the smooth transition at the store.
